Zylan Cheatham is a new name on Kentucky’s radar.

Kentucky has been hot on the recruiting trail lately. They have been checking in on the four remaining targets in 2013, but they have also been putting in a lot of work on the 2014 class.

With Kentucky going hard on the 2014 class lately, they have recently visited a guy that you may have not heard before. Coach Antigua took sometime to go out to Arizona and visit with 2014 prospect Zylan Cheatham out of Phoenix, Arizona.

I was able to catch up with him recently to see what he thought about the visit from Antigua and his thoughts on Kentucky as a program.

This small forward prospect stands at 6-foot-8, 205 pounds and plays for Westwind Prep Academy. He has been playing well and really starting to get attention from a lot of big programs across the nation.

Recently he seems as though Cheatham has been blowing up on the recruiting scene. Right now in high school he told me he was averaging 14 points, around 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and just over 1 block. That’s an impressive stat line for a small forward.

Since he is playing well, he is now getting recruited by several big time schools like UNLV, Gonzaga, Memphis, Indiana, and now Kentucky has checked in to see him. He also has 11 other offers to go along with the current school that are interested in him.

Do you have a dream school that you would most like to attend?

“No, but I’ve always wanted to go to school that is best for me.”

How did the visit with the Kentucky staff go?

“It was amazing, seeing all of the pro players that have came out of there and then seeing one of the coaches in front of me, it really meant a lot.”

What kind of interest do you have currently in Kentucky?

“I have lot of interest in them(Kentucky), it’s a great program, the play my style, and they help kids to the next level.”

Coach Antigua told him that they had interest in him, they like his game, that they could see him in their system, and look forward to seeing what he does over the course of the next few months during AAU and his high school season.

The plan is for the staff at Kentucky to keep tabs on this guy and come back for a check-up visit in the future.

This 2014 athlete can be a big time player and is currently still rising the charts as big name on the circuit. If he continues to improve his game, he could become a big target for Kentucky. The next few months will be very important for Cheatham to shine.
