Recruiting Updates – 1/25/12

recruiting messages
It’s been awhile since we did a full update on all recruits, so this post is way over due.  I am going to give updates, visit info, lists, predictions, and much much more.  Check out the info and what I think about each recruit below.

2013

Andrew Wiggins

Visits:  He is scheduled to have an official visit to Kentucky after the season.  He has officially visited FSU and has plans to take official visits to UNC & Kansas as well.
List:  FSU, Kentucky, Kansas, & UNC
Thoughts:  Wiggins has a lot of thinking to do and he is definitely going to weigh out the process before making a decision.  He is the most likely and the least likely to end up at Kentucky at the same time.  In the end the question Andrew Wiggins will be asking is “What is the best decision for me to ensure that I will be the #1 pick in the NBA draft?”
Prediction:  Eventually he very well could end up at Kentucky, unless he picks a school before he takes his other official visits.  The visit to Kentucky could change everything for him.  If he impressed and hears what he needs when he visits UK, then thing will change in a major way.

Julius Randle

Visits:   He has officially visited Kentucky already, we all know his mom likes our “Red Velvet”  cake the most.   He is at NC State this weekend and has another visit or two planned for the future.  After high school and all of his visits, his process will start to unfold.  He still may wait until after the college season though to make his decision.
List:  Kentucky, Kansas, Texas, NC State, Florida
Thoughts:  He is waiting on Alex Poythress’ decision and Andrew Wigginst’ decision, which will in return help him make his decision.
Prediction:  He is the most likely to end up at Kentucky in my eyes, but will only come to UK if things fall into place just the way he wants them too.  I will say that if Poythress comes back or Wiggins decides before Randle, which is very likely then he will end up at Kansas, Texas, or NC State.  I still think right now that Poythress will be gone to NBA and Wiggins will likely go to FSU, so Randle comes to Kentucky.

Aaron Gordon

Visits:   All his official visits have been taken. The Kentucky visit went well, but so did the others.  He was nearing a decision after his visits were completed, but I think he had to take a while longer to think about it.  He could be getting close to a decision now once again.
List:  Arizona, Kentucky, & Washington  (**Rumored he may be cutting UK, not confirmed news though**)
Thoughts:  His plans to attend Kentucky would be if only he knew for sure Wiggins and Randle were headed elsewhere.  He likes Kentucky, but I believe he is tired of waiting on those two guys and wants to stay on the West Coast.
Prediction:  If he wants to wait til the end, there is a chance he comes to Kentucky.  I do think he will want to wait until May to make his decision.  I look for him to commit to Arizona within the next month or so, maybe wait til around Jordan Brand or McDonald’s All-American Game.  My thoughts and predictions are Arizona.

2014

Tyus Jones

Visits:   He recently just took an unofficial visit to Kentucky(I actually was at that game).  It was not a great game, but the crowd was loud and showed Tyus a really good time.  He was even recruited by a Grandma.
Thoughts:  He likes Kentucky, but I am not sure that it will work out in the end.  The package deal of Jones and Okafor is to interesting and not real easy to sway both of them Kentucky.  It will be really hard to do.
List:  Kentucky, Baylor, Duke, Kansas, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, and UNC.
Prediction:  It’s a long time off, but if he really wants that package deal of him and Okafor, then he will end up elsewhere.   That is a really hard deal to get both of them to go along with the other guys that UK is recruiting.  Things can always change though, just my thoughts at this time.

Emmanuel Mudiay

Visits:  As far as I know he has not taken any unofficial or official visits.  Expect him to start taking some of them this spring/summer.
Thoughts:  He really likes UK.  He really likes Coach Calipari.  He is practically split with Tyus on being the top PG in the 2014 class.
List:  Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M
Prediction:  Once he takes an unofficial visit to UK, I believe it will be really hard from him not to pull the trigger soon thereafter.  Look for him to have lot’s of movement on the recruiting trail this spring heading into the summer.

Stanley Johnson

Visits:  I know he plans to visit Kentucky, but he may not end up visiting until next season.  I am not sure that he is an hurry to end his recruitment.
Thoughts:  He really likes Kentucky, Coach Calipari, the other players being recruited in the 2014 class.  Like I said I don’t think he is ready to end his recruitment, but  he does know what his top  three or five schools are in my opinion.
List:  Kentucky, UNLV, Oregon, San Diego State, N.C. State, Florida Arizona, Louisville, Southern Cal, Syracuse and UCLA (He cut list to 10 & Florida today)
Prediction:  I think he will end up at Kentucky.  I am calling it now, Johnson will be a Wildcat.

Notes:

- 2014 SF Justise Winslow did not include UK in his top 10.
