When I think of what a Wide Receiver should look like, I think of this guy. Javess Blue will look good in blue. For real.
We are getting down closer and closer to signing day, and there’s a ton of news to get to. Let’s get it.
Yesterday, Nate Willis’ commitment took the commitment list up to 20 for the year, leaving only 5 spots open. Now, there may be a few Joker holdovers on the commitment list who have been asked to look around that we don’t know about yet, but it’s looking like we can only really expect 5 guys to commit. Here’s a list of 5 guys that I feel are the most likely to commit between now and signing day, based on everything I’ve read:
If that’s what we get, then take it to the bank it’s still the best recruiting class at UK in a very long time. But here’s the thing, the staff is after some guys right now that would take this recruiting class to a whole new level.
Some guys to keep an eye on:
Marcus is a 4* Safety out of Ohio that is currently committed to Nebraska. One of his primary recruiters from Nebraska was Vince Marrow, who is now at UK. Marrow and Stoops appear to have good connections with Cardinal Mooney, the same as the Pelini’s do. It will be interesting to see what comes of this recruitment.
Many thought there would never be a chance that UK could flip Jason Hatcher, and have him be the first UK commit from Trinity in a long time. Then he visited, and then he had an in-home visit from UK’s coaches, and things are really heating up. Reportedly, both visits went extremely well, and there is some pressure from his Mom to stay closer to home. When you look at it too, DJ Eliot has Bjoern Werner, a Defensive End, in the top 10 of this year’s NFL draft. Hatcher likes the coaches. It will be very interesting as we get closer to Signing Day, to see how firm his commitment to USC really is.
Probably the most popular UK recruit on Twitter is still certainly in play for the Cats. The issue really is that he’s still committed to Oklahoma State, and is visiting there this weekend. The staff has an in-home visit with him next Monday. They have a good contingency plan in place though in case they are not able to. It’s fair to note that both Timmons and Badet are ballers.
Not looking good for UK and Woulard. Clemson is hot on his trail, and have a history of producing good quarterbacks in the same mold as Woulard. Tahj Boyd is likely to be a high draft pick whenever he goes to the NFL. Kentucky has a lot more needs than quarterback, though of course if you can get a guy of his caliber, you take him.
With all of this said, here’s the best case scenario for UK on Signing Day:
If you’re counting, that’s 6, and would take the list to 26. I think there’s at least one guy currently committed that will see the writing on the wall between now and 2/6, making room for the 25. If, and that’s a big IF, this happens, this is a top 25 recruiting class. You’ll notice I kept JoJo Kemp, Timmons, and Maka on the board. The staff really wants those guys, and some even think those guys would start from day 1 at UK. That’s how good they are.
Here’s the Official Visitor list that we know for sure will be here this weekend:
3* (4* on ESPN) WR Ryan Timmons
3* WR Jeff Badet
3* RB Stafon McCray
3* WR DeAngelo Yancey
3* C David Maka
3* DB David Kamara (the teammate of Robert Nkemdiche)
It’s unclear exactly when Marcus McWilson will visit, and 4* DB (FSU commit) Marquez White has pushed his visit back to 1/25.
We’ll update you with more as we get it.
***In some 2014 news, UK has offered 4* Conner Quarterback prospect Drew Barker. UK currently trails South Carolina, but has made up a ton of ground in recent weeks. Barker will be making a decision in April.
Go Big Blue!
