January Preview

January
December has come and gone,  now we are moving into the month of January.  Also 2012 is now officially over, but thankfully the basketball season is not or I would be depressed.

We’re almost into the SEC schedule the good part of the season, where every game is an interesting turn.

Below is a short breakdown of what to expect in January:

Vs. Eastern Michigan

Wednesday, January 2, 2012 | 6:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPNU] | Lexington, Ky | Rupp Arena

Comments on Eastern Michigan:   This our last “practice” so called game before the conference schedule starts.  EMU is not looked up on as a great team, so let’s hope we get all our kinks worked and then we can get going on the conference teams.

@ Vanderbilt

Thursday, January 10, 2012 | 9:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPN/ESPN 2] | Nashville, Tennessee | Memorial Gym

Comments on Vanderbilt:  They are not doing so hot either this season.  They lost the bulk of their line-up as we did, so they are trying to recover, but have a little harder time replacing guys unlike Coach Calipari.  They are still an SEC team and it will be a tough, but it should be a manageable game.   I look for UK to start the SEC schedule with a win.

Vs. Texas A&M

Saturday, January 12, 2012 | 4:00 p.m. | TV = [SEC Network] | Lexington, Ky | Rupp Arena

Comments on Texas A&M:  This is the first time UK has faced A&M in SEC play.  Not sure what to expect of their SEC play, but they should be a good opponent.  They have played decent so far this season, but haven’t really play any tough or ranked opponents.  We will just have to see how they fair against UK and the SEC.

Vs. Tennessee

Tuesday, January 15, 2012 | 7:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPN] | Lexington, Ky | Rupp Arena

Comments on Tennessee:  It is a big rival game an Tennessee is suppose to have a good team this year, but have yet to live up to expectations this year in their non-conference schedule.  They did beat Georgetown, but lost to Virginia, so really we do not know to expect.  It is good that we get to play them at home first, because they will probably be our first true test in the SEC.

@ Auburn

Saturday, January 19, 2012 | 9:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPNU] | Auburn, Alabama| Auburn Arena

Comments on Auburn:  They are a unique team, they have not played to good this season thus far, yet they played well against a very good Illinois team, losing only by 2.  It’s a team that can suck really bad, but play their asses off against Kentucky, so you never know what were going get.  Let’s just hope UK can take care of business against them.

@ Alabama

Tuesday, January 22, 2012 | 9:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPN] | Tuscaloosa, Alabama| Coleman Coliseum

Comments on Alabama:  They are another team that is questionable.  They have some pieces on their team, but have lost some pieces as well.  Lacey is a great scorer, so if we can contain him, we can hopefully handle the rest of the team.  We will see how the match-up of the guards and wings go, because I think we should have a clear advantage in the front court.

Vs. LSU

Saturday, January 26, 2012 | 4:00 p.m. | TV = [SEC Network] | Lexington, Ky | Rupp Arena

Comments on LSU:  This team could be one of the surprise teams of the SEC this year, they have some really good players and will match-up pretty well with UK.  It is going to be an interesting game, especially since last year we found out how rough they play.  This could be a loss for UK, but then again we will have several tough games under our belt.  The farther we get into the SEC, the better we will get.

@ Ole Miss

Tuesday, January 29, 2012 | 9:00 p.m. | TV = [ESPN] | Oxford, Mississippi | C.M. ‘Tad’ Smith Coliseum

Comments on Ole Miss:  This is the last game of the month and it’s on the road.  Ole Miss can be a solid team and will play hard against UK.  They have not lost very many games year up to this point, but they haven’t really play anyone hard either.  We will know more about them by the end of the month, we’ll see if they have the talent to hang with us after they face a few SEC teams.

Going to be a good month. We may see a loss or two, but it is relative easy start to the SEC schedule.  Let’s hope things go as planned.

Go Big Blue!
